Global warming, sustainability, individuals and organisations

Global warming, a topic that hasn’t left the media since the science behind it was brought to the public’s attention. The emitting of greenhouse gasses causing earths ozone layer to slowly rot away and force the planet to heat up to a boiling point seems like something we would want to prevent, no? Well it seems some of the corporate giants would agree and have started to lead the way to a greener future.

Unilever, the corporation in charge of getting you everything from your Vaseline to ice-creams has taken huge steps towards becoming 100% green. According to their website, Unilever have committed themselves to using 100% renewable energies across everything they do by 2030 and have already made big steps to doing so, reducing their emissions by 43% since 2008 (Unilever, 2020)

Another big company putting in the work to tackle climate change is Ikea. Ikea states that they are aiming to reduce more greenhouse gas than they emit alongside working with their suppliers and supporting them in going greener (Molin, 2018). Ikea also stated that they want to improve their overall energy efficiency compared to 2005 by 25% through the usage of solar panels and eco-friendly lightbulbs (Ikea, 2020).

To name a few other businesses that are making a conscious effort would be the likes of Nike, L’Oréal and even McDonalds (not that im advocating for fast food). So if you’re truly passionate about climate change and sustainability make sure you do your research and support the right businesses next time you look to give you money to them.
